This captivating debut by criminal defense attorney Marsella kicks off a series with a complex, intriguing mystery. After a drunken night at a popular mob hangout, four friends employed at the Rhode Island attorney general’s office witness a brutal murder. Laurie, Shannon, Beth and narrator Marianna are soon thrown into the investigation, which leads directly to the posh private college attended by the victim. Buried behind the ivy walls are secrets and more bodies. The women tell desperate lies to their bosses, trying to hide their whereabouts on the night of the killing, as they dig deeper into the crime…..the skillful twists and turns of the mystery will keep readers engaged. Mystery Scene Mag Review
6. December 2008 by celeste.
Lawyer Celeste Marsella makes good use of her legal background in her engaging debut DEFENSELESS (Dell $6.99) wherein four young women employed in the Rhode Island attorney general’s office witness a murder and try to solve it, all the while hiding their involvement from their boss. The quartet makes for likeable sleuths and Marsella mixes enough humor and romance into the complex plot to keep things entertaining. –Mary Alice Gorman

4-star review for DEFENSELESS from the Mystery News
1. November 2008 by celeste.
Gayle Wedgewood gives the prestigious 4 quills to DEFENSELESS!!
“…For a first novel, this is a nice surprise. The characters are very well defined, the plot is face-paced and holds your interest, and the writing is quite good. Not only that, but it looks like this is going to the beginning of a series––and a tougher, but more likeable, group will be hard to find. This is the chance to get in on the first of what promises to be a riveting new series.”

Thank you all for coming!! It was a great turnout. Almost 100% of invitees came toting friends and family. All copies of DEFENSELESS sold out early and we even took some orders!!!
I want to especially thank my editor Caitlin Alexander from Random House and my agent Michele Rubin from Writer’s House. And my private editor Emily Heckman showed up to cheer me on, as she always has from the very first day.

TALK TO ME
7. September 2008 by celeste.
Hey All,
DEFENSELESS will be on the shelves September 30th and I want to know what you think of it ASAP!!
Your feedback makes me a better writer, so I will read every comment, whether it be positive or negative. Have no fear: I have very broad shoulders and can bear onslaughts of harsh criticism–though I can’t imagine there’ll be any. = {
So please read it and enjoy, and TALK TO ME about it when you’re done.
xx Celeste
